Revved Up and Representing with Jim Phelps!

CD Barnes Construction is proud to support our very own Jim Phelps as he hits the track in style—rocking a brand-new motocross suit featuring the CD Barnes logo!

While some people buy a sports car or a boat at 55, Jim Phelps looked across his shop at an old race bike and thought, "I wonder if I can still keep up with these guys." That simple thought turned into something much bigger.

​

Jim’s love for flat track racing started at just 11 years old, racing alongside his younger brother, who was only 8. The pair quickly rose through the ranks and earned their professional licenses in 1990. Sadly, tragedy struck in 1991 when Jim’s brother was involved in a fatal crash on a mile track while battling for the lead—bringing everything to a halt.

Years later, the racing legacy lived on through Jim’s son, Dillon, who began riding at age 4. He went pro at 16 and later stepped into the role of crew chief with a professional team.

​

Now at 55, Jim is back—not chasing championships but chasing the thrill of the ride. He’s running a limited 12-race schedule this season just for fun, and it's going better than he imagined.

​

It all started with a joke over lunch with Tom Berry about how his friends have a business logo on their leathers and trailers. That joke turned into reality when Tom surprised Jim with his first-ever brand-new suit—fully branded with the CD Barnes logo and ready for the track.

​

Jim is also helping promote a couple charity races benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters.

​

Whether he’s leading a project or tearing up the track, Jim brings unmatched passion, determination, and drive. We’re proud to see him representing CD Barnes—on the job site and at 130 mph.
